Faith Filled February

Hey everyone!!! 

I hope all of y'all had a great first days of February!! This year is already going by so fast, wild. 

This week was awesome. We had a zone activity which involved a nerf gun battle and I got the gun that didn't shoot very well so that combined with my awful aim and strategy wasn't good. But we won the second round. 

This week we also had exchanges for a day so I got to spend the day with Sister Wakefield who I lived with in North Miami Beach. So that was so fun! I love her, she is from Mesquite which is so funny bc I know this is awful but honestly I didn't think normal people lived in mesquite. But there is! We talked to two kind of crazy but really nice people that day. 

We also had dinner with a member at Panera on Thursday and we had a fun conversation about 80s music. Scott likes Bruce Springsteen. 

I also got to go knocking in a trio this week which was fun.

And Saturday we did a 9er 9er which means we go out knocking doors from 9am to 9 pm. So they're long days but they're fun because our zone had a scavenger hunt competition and me and Sister Mcarthur won!!! I know there wasn't any doubt in anyone's minds. I play to win. We also went to 5 guys and I ordered my first hamburger in Florida and it was delish. 

And then Sunday we had dinner with a member whose house backs up to the everglades!!! So that was SO cool. Super nice view from their backyard. 

This week I was thinking about how everyone has a different religion but really they're all so similar. And not even religion but people's life philosophies. We just all need to always try to be better. It's worth the work! And we're in it together. There's a super cute video that I saw in 7th grade. If you search 'kid president pep talk' on YouTube it should come up. There's a part in it where he says 'and if life is a game arent we all on the same team?' Which I love. So be kind and try to be better. Anyway I love you all and hope you have a fantastic week!!!

Tough Crowd

Hey everyone!!!!

Sorry for the lack of an email I was too busy playing kickball. And if you're worried that that is not a good enough excuse I was sore for two days after bc I have never ran that fast in the past two years probably. I also still have a bruise on my leg from sliding into first (which I know you're not supposed to do but when a strong elder has the ball and can get you out by throwing it at you, usually ducking is my reaction.) Also I found out that people getting out because they don't know the pop fly tag your base rule isn't something that goes away after elementary school

But things have been good! The highlights from knocking doors include a lady yelling at us from her two story window she couldn't come to the door because she had 'take a bath my loves' and then at another door this lady opened and was taking out her dogs and I thought she was wearing slippers with a weird design so I said 'I like your shoes!" Only to realize she was wearing socks and flip flops... oops.

Also this week at flamingo gardens we got to go weed 'the jungle' which was fun. There was a weed there called 'wandering jew' and sister Slade and I made so many jokes about that which were so funny. 

Sister mcArthur and I spoke in church yesterday and talk about a tough crowd- I THOUGHT I put like 5 jokes in my talk but apparently the right number was zErO because literally no one laughed. Which made me laugh. But then the third speaker REPEATED one of my jokes and everyone laughed. So that was great. But then after church one of the ladies from the congregation told us that we were funny and she said she was trying not to laugh, so I am just going to assume everyone in the congregation was that way and was secretly laughing very hard. 

My talk was about making the choice to change and become a better person. And how the gospel is really simple. We just choose to follow christ and it brings joy. We know what's right and wrong. So choose the right! I love and miss yall!!!! Hope you have a great week.

Broken AC

Well, our house is having a rough go. Since the time I've been here our dryer has broken, we've had a hole in our wall, broken freezer, and now our AC. But it's being fixed now. Luckily it's January and not August. 

This week was great! Lots of fun times knocking doors and trying not to get kicked out of gated communities. 

This week we met a cool guy named Larry who was actually a member of the reorganized Latter-day Saints church a couple years back so he was super interesting. We are bringing him the Come Follow Me Manual for the Book of Mormon so we are excited. 

Saturday we went with the hermanas that live with us to a baptism for one of their friends. The hermanas and I sang a special music number while sister McArthur played the piano so that was good. I am not the best singer but it all worked out. 

This morning we played pickleball! With a bunch of old retired people so that was fun. A couple walking by actually asked us where we were from bc they said usually there's only older people there. It was fun. Apparently I'm a natural. Or my opponent was just being nice. I'm going to guess the latter.  

This week I was reading the Book of Mormon and was thinking about how important faith is. And I know that faith can help us get through so much in this life. So "fan the flame of your faith!"

Broken Freezers

Hi Everyone! 

I hope Everyone had a great New Years! Mine was action packed including Sister Slade cutting my hair with our kitchen scissors, (and actually doing a fabulous job) toasting to the new year with our non alcoholic sparkling white grape juice, and all four of us wearing matching $5 T-shirts. So all in all it was a fantastic way to start the new year. 

Then we woke up New Year's Day to a broken fridge and freezer. So we called our members and they came in clutch with come coolers that we packed with ice. But luckily a maintenance guy came and fixed it by the next day so all is well.

Saturday was also action packed. And if anyone stops reading right now and emails me guessing correctly what I did Saturday morning I will pay you $20. But if any of you actually get it right I will not believe you and say you cheated because it is so obscure.

I vacuumed a koi pond. Yes you read that correctly and no, no koi were hurt or bothered. We volunteer every week at a place called Flamingo Gardens so we had to vacuum the moss off the walls of the pond. Which was very fun. And after I got to see all the animals there including a panther, river otters, my first gator(!), Josh the Black Bear, and some cool burrowing owls. Also they have a room called 'the Aviary' and I went in thinking I was going to see maybe some cool birds, but we walk in and the room is just full of huge PELICANS and SEAGULLS walking around and bird poop all over and some other smaller birds with pink eyes. If anyone doesn't know my backstory with pelicans just ask Paul, he LOVES telling that story. Long story short I was 10 and I had fish in my hands and the pelicans were as big as me and wanted my fish. So yeah that room wasn't my favorite room in the gardens. 

Today we went to the boardwalk/beach and I saw the ocean for the first time since I've been here and that was super nice and fun. Also yesterday in church someone said "This isn't just the restored gospel, it's a restoring gospel." Which is so true! The gospel offers infinite second chances and new beginnings. The gospel of Jesus Christ fulfills us and brings purpose to our lives. And it's why I'm out here! I love you all and hope ya'll have a good week!!!

Me and the brownie Sister Slade made for me and for new years eve we went to IHOP and were the only ones in the restaurant, except our nice waiter Alvin who got off at 10. We love Alvin. 

Hello 2020

Hey everyone! 

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have fun plans for new years!

This week was a blast! 

Christmas eve we got to go to our mission presidents house and have a party there which included Book of Mormon Stories charades but sister McArthur didn't catch the Book of Mormon stories part so when she was trying to guess enos and everyone started shooting their bow and arrows she started jumping up and down and yelling Robin hood! Robin hood! So that was funny.

We also went caroling to their neighbors which was really nice. 

Christmas day we got to eat dinner with a member and her daughter which was really nice. Delicious peach cobbler for dessert.

The rest of the week was good as well. But it's always sad when Christmas time ends. But now it's new years!!! I would like to challenge everyone to make TWO goals this year! One- the one you probably have already thought about whatever you like. 

And two- to not give up on your new years resolutions after you fail!! Everyone falls short on some of their goals but the important part is to keep trying to be better!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Hey everyone!!!

This week was just dandy! Lots of fun stuff for Christmas time. Also this week I got my card from the mission saying I could drive so I drive for the first time in months this week and I learned Chevy Equinoxes have very sensitive brakes so the first two stops were rough. Sister McArthur might've had some whiplash. But don't worry I got it down pat now. 

This week we visited one of our friends and helped her wrap her presents for Christmas then watched the Christ Child video which was really nice. 

Saturday we got to help a lady organize her storage unit which is always fun to see what treasures those hold. 

And Sunday we had an awesome service with beautiful musical numbers and we went caroling last night which was so fun because sister McArthur let me borrow one of her shirts and it was a nice night so we biked to the meeting place and it was a fun night. 

Away in a Manger is one of my faves Christmas songs and the last verse is one of the best-

 Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,

And fit us for heaven to live with thee there.

Caroling and Crazy Ducks

Hey Everyone!!

This week was great! We had zone conference which is always so uplifting and inspiring! President Garns' Sister and her husband came and spoke to us which was amazing. He is so knowledgeable about the Book of Mormon and had some cool stories. And it was fun to see Sister Toone and Sister Wakefield.

Also one evening this week a young woman from our ward came knocking with us which was fun until we started being followed by a crazy duck and Sister McArthur hid behind me and pushed me into the duck. Thriving.

Saturday we helped the elders in our district move one of their members which was really fun. And then sunday night we all went caroling which was awesome. One lady answered and started tearing up as she told us she just found out she was cancer free and saw us as God showing His love for her. So that was a super sweet experience.

This week I heard two quotes that were cool. One is from Benjamin Franklin and he said, "Well done is better than well said" and the other is from Aristotle- "Happiness is a state of activity" I've come to know that when we practice what we preach we are much more happier and fulfilled with our lives. I think of the quote from president Nelson- The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.
If we dwell on the negative, everything will seem sad, but when we look for the good we will I find it and be so much happier because of it!!! I love you all and hope you all have a fabulous week!!!
