Dear ,
Thank you for accepting the call to serve as a Trainer in the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission. Please know that this call was issued as a result of my prayers to our Heavenly Father to guide me to those whom He would have serve in this assignment. The first and most important call I take to the Lord in every transfer is who He can trust to train these new missionaries.
A missionary's first companion has a lasting influence on the development of their attitude and habits. The first companion can help a new missionary be successful and productive from the beginning of the mission to the end. Your efforts as a trainer will have a life-long and eternal consequence in the life of your companion. Your example should also demonstrate the joy that comes to the missionary who is effective at finding, teaching, testifying and baptizing. Your example should be that of exact obedience and devotion to the mission. If you will focus your attention in the mission and encourage your companion to do the same, you will have increased success in baptisms.
To help the missionary adapt to missionary life, please read the Missionary Handbook together as often as necessary and explain how it applies. You should follow the daily schedule diligently and have exact obedience in all mission rules. Carefully study together "For New Missionaries: Additional Companion Study" found in The Introduction to Preach My Gospel and apply all principles to the work.
Help your new companion develop basic missionary skills by using the training model: explain the skill you are teaching, demonstrate examples of how to correctly teach a principle or use a skill with roll plays, practice the skill repeatedly and evaluate after each practice exercise.
Use daily and weekly companion planning meetings to help your companion set goals and evaluate progress. Make sure that they participate as a contributing member of the companionship. In that way, you and your companion will develop stronger faith in Jesus Christ and love for missionary service.
Thank you again for accepting this sacred assignment as a Trainer. Please know that I love you and that I look forward to celebrating with you the success of your companionship!
Sincerely,
Jerryl L. Garns
Mission President
